Color Picker

Spot a color in a reference that you want to paint with? Press the shortcut, move to that pixel, and click. Color Picker copies its HEX value to the clipboard. When your painting app's color link is ready, it also tries to set the brush's foreground color.

Use it for one quick sample. For a wheel that stays beside your canvas and keeps palettes, open Color Assistant.

Screen sampling happens locally and uses no Nepheline.

Pick from the screen

  1. Press Ctrl + Shift + I. Or double-tap Ctrl and choose Pick Color in the Astrolabe, or use the eyedropper in Color Assistant. Change the shortcut under Settings → Hotkeys.
  2. Move the cursor in picking mode. The magnifier shows the center pixel and its color. Left-click to take it; press Esc or right-click to cancel.
  3. The HEX value (#RRGGBB) is copied to the clipboard. If the painting app link is ready, the color also goes to the foreground swatch. Otherwise, paste the HEX value into your app's color field.

The picker reads the single screen pixel at the magnifier's center. After picking, you can also view RGB, HSL, and HSV values.

Painting app support

Color Picker shares Color Assistant's link to CLIP Studio Paint (international), 优动漫 PAINT PRO / EX, PaintTool SAI 2, and Photoshop. Automatic writing depends on the app, its canvas, and the color link being ready. The HEX value is still copied to the clipboard after a successful pick.

CLIP Studio Paint prefers Companion Mode. First use may require pairing and a CSP restart. If it falls back to the on-screen eyedropper path, the app may instead prompt you to configure a shortcut and restart. Follow the prompt shown in Nephele. 优动漫, SAI 2, and Photoshop use their own links; they do not need CSP's pairing steps.

For any other app, use the copied HEX value.

Pick from the original image on a Reference Board

You can also pick directly from an image on the Reference Board. This reads the source image pixel, rather than the color after it has been displayed on screen. Board opacity, zoom, and grayscale viewing do not change the sampled color. If the file includes an ICC profile, it is converted to sRGB first. The result is copied as HEX and sent to the brush when the app link is ready.

To take a set of colors from the image, choose Extract Palette on the board. The palette appears in Color Assistant.
